Most universities, Shawn Banzhaf says, would be happy if 5% of their students were military-connected. At Arizona State University he puts the figure at about 13%, roughly 22,000 military-connected students. In his experience, serving them well takes more than processing GI Bill benefits: it takes understanding a different culture, making expectations explicit and building community from the first day.
