Built in 1913 by the Knights of Pythias, the castle served as a home for aging members and orphaned children before being taken over by the U.S. military during World War II. Over time, its role shifted—from care facility to rehabilitation center and prisoner-of-war site—adding layers of history that still seem to linger within its walls.
