For six hundred years, the dead of a generation ship have been given to the distance.
The ship's sexton has spent three decades washing bodies, sewing shrouds, and sending them into the dark. Then the number on an ancient navigation slate begins to fall. A piece of forgotten debris is drawing nearer, though neither ship nor object has accelerated.
