Holmes and Watson are on an academic excursion at one of England's historic universities, when they are unexpectedly presented with a new case. Mr. Hilton Soames, a lecturer, has just found out that the proofs for his exam tomorrow have been tampered with. The exam will determine who wins a prestigious scholarship, so if someone tried to copy the proofs, scandal would ensue.
