It's a dark and stormy night, and not a creature is stirring - except Scotland Yard inspector Stanley Hopkins. He has turned up at Baker Street to ask for Sherlock Holmes's assistance in investigating an inexplicable murder. A young man named Willoughby Smith has been murdered, and Hopkins has no idea why. The only evidence is the golden pince-nez that the murdered man was clutching in his right hand.
