Elisabet Ney, a pioneering German American sculptor, revolutionized Austins art scene in the 1800s. She built the Formosa studio, now the Elisabet Ney Museum, which is set to reopen in spring 2027 under new director Jade Walker. Ney, the first woman admitted to the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, broke barriers and advised European leaders. In Texas, she ran a farm, advocated for public schools, and had studios worldwide. Her last piece, a marble Lady Macbeth, may reflect personal grief. The museums revival honors her legacy of making Austin weirder and bolder.
