Mothers Day, celebrated on the second Sunday in May, has a rich history rooted in peace, health, and gratitude. Julia Ward Howes 1872 call for a Mothers Day for peace laid the groundwork, while Ann Jarvis efforts to heal divides between North and South soldiers families led to the holidays official recognition in the U.S. in 1914. Anna Jarvis, Anns daughter, honored her mothers memory with white carnations and rallied for the holidays national recognition. However, she later regretted its commercialization.
