The Weird Circle presents “The Strange Judgment,” episode 30, originally broadcast March 19, 1944. This NBC-syndicated adaptation draws on Honoré de Balzac’s 1834 tale Un drame au bord de la mer, also known as La Justice paternelle.
On the rugged Brittany coast, an elderly man living alone beside the sea recalls his earlier life as Pierre, a prosperous fisherman. As Pierre and his wife Brouin grow troubled by the increasingly cruel behavior of their son Jacques, a missing family provision pushes long-simmering fears toward a private and terrible reckoning.
