Our Miss Brooks, “Connie’s New Job Offer” (episode 52), originally broadcast on CBS on July 31, 1949. Eve Arden stars as Madison High English teacher Connie Brooks, with Gale Gordon as the formidable Osgood Conklin.
During summer school, Connie learns that her former position as secretary to the mayor of Norwich, Connecticut, may be open—and it promises considerably better pay than teaching. The possibility puts Connie’s future at Madison High in question, much to Principal Conklin’s concern. The episode reflects a real Colgate-Palmolive-Peet contest promotion and was written and directed by Al Lewis.
