More Americans have now been killed by the air at Ground Zero than were killed by the planes. Nearly ten thousand of them. And they are dead because the people in charge told them it was safe to breathe when it wasn’t.
The attacks killed 2,977. Since then the Victim Compensation Fund has tied nearly 10,000 more deaths to illnesses people got from the dust, 5,892 of those cancer. About 400,000 people breathed it in. The federal health program is treating 145,275 of them right now, and that number goes up every year.
